The probably best you can do is defragment the hard drive and disable non-essential services and/or programs that load at start-up. Another useful trick to speed up things is to reformat your computer’s hard drive and reinstall Windows every year or so. That helps with registry entries and other data accretion.
If you really want to speed up your hardware noticeably you need to invest in hardware upgrades, typically more RAM or a faster hard drive.
